Set against the mystery of the HMS E18’s disappearance, Tales from the Void sends British captain Edwin Albert Taylor Bragg and his crew into space after a secret weapon misfires. Stranded among asteroids, they must contend with hostile aliens, scarce food and dwindling air while searching for a way home. Its early twentieth-century science-fiction adventure premise gives the survival struggle a distinctly historical frame.
Play combines squad-based tactical combat and resource management in a third-person RTS hybrid. Players customize and control marines as they explore asteroids, scavenge supplies and fight in low gravity. Encounters can unfold in real time, or players can pause to plan movements and coordinate attacks. Missions add urgency: crews need to gather what they need before their air runs out. A semi-random mission structure and permadeath make each attempt part of a broader cycle of trying, failing, unlocking equipment and improving.
The documented format is an extensive single-player campaign with an ongoing narrative, rather than multiplayer competition. The campaign, repeat-attempt structure and mix of action with planning define the experience more clearly than any one activity figure.
