Tales & Tactics is a single-player roguelike strategy game built around squad-based autobattling. Its story follows a character through the Grand Tournament, an annual test of skill, across three acts of rival encounters and boss fights. With no time limits, the design gives players room to consider their options and prepare for each battle rather than making decisions under a countdown.
Team-building is central to the run. Players assemble fighters from varied groups, including Fae, Dragons, Treefolk, Skeletons, Ghouls, and Orcs, and combine roles such as Tanks, Healers, Mages, and Engineers. Units can benefit from trait synergies, while equipment, army-size increases, higher unit tiers, and level-up perks offer further ways to shape a squad. Rewards vary from run to run, making adaptation part of the strategy.
Progression is designed to add breadth rather than simply more power: runs unlock perks, units, items, and other features, and those additions can be disabled so players can introduce systems at their own pace. Beyond the main tournament adventure, the game offers a Challenge Climb with rising difficulty and new mechanics, plus asynchronous PvP. Its mix of deliberate planning, changing rewards, and optional layers of complexity gives the autobattler a distinctly single-player roguelike framework.
