A deadly plague leaves the planet’s doctors searching for a cure, and the only lead is a legendary alien facility buried in the Feldspar Mountains. In Sword of the Stars: The Pit, expeditions descend into this ancient structure, where previous attempts have failed to return. The premise gives the dungeon crawl a clear purpose, but the game’s own framing puts survival at the center: the question is how far a character can get before the monsters win.
This is a turn-based RPG built in the tradition of old-school dungeon diving and set in the Sword of the Stars science-fiction universe. Players choose among a Marine, Pilot, or Engineer, improve their character and skills, and face enemies across the Pit’s levels. Weapons and armor range from flamethrowers and rocket launchers to powered Brawler armor; crafting turns pieces taken from enemies into useful items. Randomized augmentations affect equipment and characters, while rooms may offer devices that help or hinder an expedition. Poison, disease, traps, radiation, and starvation make survival about more than defeating monsters.
Its combination of character progression, item discovery, crafting, and randomized effects gives each attempt its own survival puzzle, even as the larger goal remains reaching the cure.
