SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris is an action-adventure RPG set in Underworld, an expansive virtual world introduced in the SWORD ART ONLINE anime. Kirito awakens there with a sense of familiarity, then begins an adventure alongside Eugeo, a boy bound to him by a lingering promise. Their shared goal gives the story its emotional thread: they set out to reach it without losing one another.
Combat unfolds in real time, with players combining sword skills and sacred arts alongside familiar SWORD ART ONLINE characters. This mix of action and RPG framing is central to the game’s identity: the story follows Kirito and Eugeo through a virtual-world adventure, while battles draw on multiple forms of attack rather than a single combat style. The setting and character relationships provide context for that action, not just a backdrop.
The game is listed with single-player, multiplayer, co-op, and online co-op categories, so its play format spans a personal story campaign context and options for shared play.
