Superfighters Deluxe is a 2D brawler-shooter-platformer set in a pulpy dystopian alternate-history retro-sci-fi world. Its action draws on the chaos of an action movie, but the arenas are not merely backdrops: semi-randomized levels are filled with objects that can be shifted, wrecked, used for cover, set ablaze, or turned against opponents. Staying alive means adapting to the surroundings as well as to the fight.
That improvisation extends to the arsenal. Fighters can find weapons or knock them from an enemy’s hands, with options ranging from bottles and chairs to rifles, bazookas, flamethrowers, and chainsaws. The game also supports fighter customization, while its story is spread across three campaigns: Prime Time in Sunny City, Operation Sunrise, and Escape From Precinct 9. For players who want to make their own battlegrounds, a built-in map editor uses the tools and assets found in the official maps; the game also supports custom scripts and Steam Workshop uploads.
The play format ranges from solo play to shared competition and cooperation: Versus supports up to eight players, while Survival and Campaign support up to four, and each mode can be played offline, online, or through shared-screen local multiplayer.
