Suikoden I & II HD Remaster brings together two KONAMI role-playing games, each centered on a conflict that reshapes the lives caught up in it. In the first story, a once-renowned hero becomes a violent tyrant as an empire declines, and a Liberation Army rises against oppressive rule. The gathering of the 108 stars of Destiny gives that rebellion its wider sense of historical consequence.
The second story begins with the hero and his friend Jowy serving in the Unicorn Youth Brigade during a prolonged dispute between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowston. A truce briefly ends the fighting, but the account makes clear that the prospect of renewed war remains. Together, the separate narratives give the collection a shared focus on friendship, political upheaval and the forces gathering around its protagonists. The remaster updates background illustrations to HD and refreshes effects and sound, while adding auto-save, battle fast-forward and a conversation log.
Its central appeal, as described, lies in following the two stories and their conflicts, with the updated presentation and convenience features accompanying that narrative-driven design.
