Stronghold Crusader HD brings the Stronghold castle-building strategy series to the Crusades, setting battles in the desert between Crusader forces and Saladin’s army. Its historical campaigns draw on conflicts from the First, Second and Third Crusades, including the siege of Antioch and the Siege of Jerusalem. The package also includes Stronghold Crusader Extreme, an expanded version built around the original game’s play.
At the heart of the game is the work of designing and building a desert fortress, then directing its defense and the troops sent against rival strongholds. New siege engines and castle defenses shape those preparations, while units such as the stealthy Assassin and nimble Horse Archer bring distinct abilities to the battlefield. Players can maneuver forces around enemy gates, attempt a flank, or use a feigned retreat to draw opponents into a trap.
The HD battlefield view is a defining feature: it lets players zoom out to see the entire map on one screen while battles continue in real time. Alongside the historical campaigns, the game offers more than 100 skirmish missions, making its appeal as much about repeated tactical challenges as recreating famous Crusader-era conflicts. Stronghold Crusader Extreme adds a much higher troop cap, Arrow Volley tactical powers and its own skirmish trail, extending the package’s focus on large-scale sieges.
