Stronghold Crusader Extreme is a medieval strategy game set amid the legendary Crusades of the 11th and 12th centuries. Players take the role of European nobles or Arabian warriors, building and defending desert fortresses while laying siege to enemies across harsh terrain. The game extends the Crusader formula with a focus on larger battles and pressure from successive attacks.
Outposts bring hordes of enemies onto the battlefield, while tactical powers such as reinforcement, bombardment and healing are essential tools for defending against their waves. Battles can feature more than 10,000 units, giving the game its defining emphasis on scale. Its dedicated Extreme trail contains 20 missions, and the package also includes 30 standalone maps for single-player skirmishes or multiplayer.
The design pairs those oversized confrontations with the familiar strategic challenge of fortress building and siege warfare. Eight new AI opponents add further adversaries, while the original Stronghold Crusader is included in an updated form with previously released limited-edition content, including the Warchest trail. Together, these elements make Extreme both an intensified take on Crusader and a broader package for players drawn to medieval stronghold battles.
