Strategic Command: World War I casts the player as a commander in a conflict stretching from the opening of 1914 to the final offensives. Its campaign setting spans Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and the Atlantic, with major powers including France, Italy, Russia, the UK, Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. The game frames victory as a contest of military strength and strategic ingenuity, with diplomacy and political decisions shaping the wider war.
Its hex-based design puts operational choices at the center of play. Units move and entrench, while research can improve trenches, military doctrines and access to new technologies such as tanks and fighter aircraft. Reconnaissance bombers can spot for artillery, and naval mines offer a way to protect friendly sea lanes or threaten an opponent’s shipping. Enhanced Fog of War marks the limits of unit vision, making information and positioning part of the planning challenge. The listed campaigns explore different moments and alternate alignments, including a scenario in which Italy joins the Central Powers.
The game supports single-player and multiplayer, including online PvP and a PBEM++ server with a Challenge Lobby for sending and receiving turns.
