Stones of Sorrow casts players as a violent ruler from an ancient tale, seeking a Stone of Sorrow and revenge on the blood brother who betrayed him. Its setting draws on historic cave paintings, reimagined as grotesque enemies and a nightmarish underground labyrinth. The premise gives the game a deliberately brutal, prehistoric tone rather than treating its cave-art inspiration as mere scenery.
Combat is fast and stamina-dependent, with evasive rolls, executions and corpse-eating all tied to survival or reward. Death also makes the end boss tougher, while gold can buy permanent perks for a future life; bonfires offer upgrades to damage, health and rolling. More than 50 gameplay-altering items and mysterious perks add variation to runs, and the game’s sharp-edged humor extends to NPCs who speak in black metal quotes.
Play is available solo or in local shared-screen sessions for up to four players, who can cooperate or fight each other. The camera adjusts as players spread apart or regroup, giving the multiplayer format room for a shared labyrinth run without changing the game’s roguelite focus.
