Starship Troopers: Extermination casts players as members of the Deep Space Vanguard, fighting to reclaim planets from an Arachnid invasion. Its premise shapes a cooperative first-person shooter built around collective survival rather than solo heroics: squads defend objectives, gather resources, and work to secure strategic ground.
Missions combine combat with rebuilding. Troopers can construct walls, towers, and ammunition stations in real time, while objectives include retaking bases and building refineries. Six classes offer different roles, from the Engineer’s repairs and fortifications to the Medic’s healing and revives. The game also describes environmental hazards, including sandstorms and volcanic conditions, alongside changing weather and time of day, adding battlefield pressures beyond the bugs themselves.
A distinctive feature is the Carnage System: defeated Arachnid bodies remain on the battlefield and can alter movement and sightlines. Corpse piles may become ramps for living bugs or offer Troopers higher vantage points, while also obstructing paths and views. That persistent physical aftermath reinforces the game’s siege-like design, where fighting the swarm and maintaining defensible positions are intertwined. Its co-op structure makes player counts relevant as a snapshot of participation in a team-focused planetary war.
