Star Conflict casts players as mercenary pilots drawn to Sector 1337, a remote region scarred by a mysterious cataclysm and filled with the ruins of an alien civilization. Its abandoned treasures attract competing adventurers, making exploration and conflict part of the same premise. The setting gives the battles a broader purpose than isolated space combat: pilots are fighting over the remnants of a lost world.
Combat and progression revolve around a varied fleet. The game describes ships spanning nimble scouts to heavy frigates, alongside nine tactical roles and a large selection of modules. Pilots can develop specialized skills, adapt ships for different strategic tasks, and craft modules and vessels. Those choices support contrasting approaches, from scouting and stealth to direct attacks or backing up allies. Outside battles, players can travel among space colonies, complete quests, collect items, and encounter pirates or hostile aliens.
The play format ranges from PvP fights and corporation battles for territorial influence to PvE missions for groups or solo pilots, with a sandbox mode offering both PvP and PvE activity. Players can also join forces in squadrons, so the game’s multiplayer focus spans competitive clashes and cooperative resistance to threats.
