In S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, Major Degtyarev is sent to investigate a missing military expedition in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. The journey moves through places including swampy Zaton, the industrial Jupiter plant and the abandoned city of Pripyat, where hazardous anomalies and sudden energy emissions make the landscape itself a threat. Its blend of action, horror, survival and role-playing gives the investigation a lonely, uneasy character rather than the feel of a straightforward military operation.
Survival depends on responding to the Zone’s dangers: emissions can arrive unexpectedly, while new mutants such as the night-hunting Chimera and telepathic Burer occupy its hazardous spaces. The game also invites careful choices among the people Degtyarev encounters, with decisions shaping multiple endings. Weapon and armour upgrades, a reworked A-Life simulation and an expanded set of side quests add systems and detours to the central investigation.
The game combines a single-player story with four multiplayer modes, including PvP battles for up to 32 players on one map. The multiplayer offers a separate way to engage with Call of Pripyat, while the campaign’s defining focus remains exploration, survival and uncovering what happened to the missing expedition.
