Staffer Retro: A Supernatural Mystery Quest follows Verita, an ordinary girl living above a second-hand store, whose substantial debt draws her into a case involving supernatural powers and mysterious tools known as STAFF. Set in an island town where unusual abilities exist beneath the routines of daily life, the adventure asks players to uncover how those powers shaped events in the past. Its central appeal is investigative: hidden histories and contradictions reward close attention rather than simple observation.
Players gather information and documents through conversation and exploration, then use logic to connect records and reach their own conclusions. The series’ document-focused design is made concrete through the Re:Story system, which has players sort six document types to assemble clues, and the Retro system, which reveals a darker truth behind each mystery and can turn a conclusion toward another ending. Choices and reasoning can lead to different endings, giving deduction a role in shaping the story rather than leaving it as background flavor.
The game presents its narrative as six episodes, with eleven endings and a voiced cast of more than twenty characters; animated illustrations also bring characters and cutscenes to life. As a single-player adventure designed to be played at the player’s own pace, Staffer Retro is structured around individual investigation and story decisions, not a shared session.
