Formerly known as Post Scriptum, Squad 44 is a large-scale World War II first-person shooter set across campaigns including the liberation of the Netherlands and the Battle of Normandy. Its battlefields span farms, villages, and cities, placing players in the midst of historically grounded conflicts between named Allied and German factions. The emphasis is not simply on individual marksmanship: communication, coordination, and teamwork are presented as central to winning.
Players can take on command, infantry, or logistics responsibilities. Commanders can call in gun runs or artillery, while logistics players build fortifications and emplacements; in-game voice chat supports communication within a squad and with nearby players. Armored combat adds a distinct cooperative format: four players crew a tank in driver, gunner, or commander roles, using vehicles described as modeled on real 1940s European tanks. These connected roles give the game a team-oriented shape rather than a collection of isolated firefights.
Its identity comes from the interplay of infantry, command, logistics, and vehicle crews, alongside sound and equipment designed to evoke the period. Squad 44 is therefore best understood as a tactical online war game in which communication and complementary duties are as prominent as its World War II setting.
