SpellForce: Platinum Edition collects three stories in a fantasy world scarred by the Convocation, a cataclysm unleashed by powerful mages. In The Order of Dawn, a human bound to immortality by blood runes may alter the fate of the surviving lands. The expansions broaden the conflict: Breath of Winter centers on an elf queen and a dragon, while Shadow of the Phoenix follows a necromancer’s attempt to restore the Circle mages.
Its defining feature is a blend of real-time strategy and role-playing. Players develop a hero-avatar’s skills, then lead settlements and armies into battle. Six playable races, including humans, elves, orcs and trolls, can be used together to build and fight, while spells and enchanted items add further options. The Click’n’Fight system is described as a way to deliver immediate action and tactical control, and camera zoom ranges from an isometric view to first person.
The package also includes a free-play mode in Breath of Winter, where the Avatar can improve skills on each map and lets players try different Avatar abilities without replaying the main campaign.
