Space Rangers HD: A War Apart expands the world of Space Rangers 2 with a new conflict alongside the threat posed by the Dominators, sentient machines seeking to eradicate all life. Pirates unite under a mysterious leader while the Coalition is occupied with the machines, creating a second struggle for power in a weakened galaxy. The central choice is whether to confront the Dominators, the pirates, or both.
That choice shapes a branching campaign: players who pursue both wars encounter additional story and side quests, goals, and promotions. The pirate path begins at the bottom of the organization and advances through story missions that reveal more about its leadership. After winning one war, players can end their run or carry on into another branch. Outcomes reflect more than the player’s decisions, since AI actions can also tip the balance, and the game describes its playthroughs as varied.
This blend of overlapping conflicts and continuing branches gives the game a broad, single-player role-playing and strategy format, rather than a narrowly fixed campaign.
