Sonic Adventure 2 casts its conflict as a choice between saving the world and conquering it. Its story splits into Hero and Dark adventures, following Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles on one side and Shadow, Dr. Eggman, and Rouge on the other. Rather than centering its premise on a single lead, the game sets familiar heroes against villains who have their own part in the fight over the Chaos Emeralds.
Each character brings distinct skills and abilities, giving the adventure a changing cast as the battle for the world unfolds. Beyond the main story, players can raise a Chao, improve its statistics, and enter unique mini-games with it. The game also offers more than 150 missions across 30 action-filled stages, pairing its character-led campaign with extra challenges and a pet-raising diversion.
For a different kind of session, Sonic Adventure 2 includes two-player competition, including kart racing and other competitive modes.
