Software Inc. is a management simulation about founding a company that makes software and hardware. The player shapes both the workplace and the business: construct and furnish offices, recruit staff, and organize people with different skills into teams. With customizable founders and plots to develop, the game ties company growth to the spaces where employees work, rather than treating the office as a background detail.
Product development and workplace management run side by side. Teams can design, develop, support, update, research, and market products, while the player attends to employees’ needs, skills, and team cohesion. The business can also manufacture goods, take contract work, pursue patents, make deals, trade stocks, and set up servers for products or an online store.
The play format supports either a solo company or shared play: up to four players can use the same map, competing or cooperating by delegating work, manufacturing, and server hosting.
