In Skate Story, you play a demon made of glass and pain, bound by a bargain with the Devil: skate to the Moon and swallow it to earn freedom. The journey crosses the ash-filled Emptylands and nine layers of the Underworld, where surreal streets and landscapes turn a supernatural quest into a skateboarding adventure. Its strange, ritualistic tone sits alongside a concrete goal, making the trip as much about mastering the board as reaching the Moon.
That mastery comes through hands-on skating: ollies, kickflips and grinds, with more than 70 tricks to learn and improve. You control your weight and motion to handle precarious paths, gaps and waxed ledges, then find or create challenges in freeform skate spots. Skate trials offer another route to progress, bringing new tricks and gear; decks, wheels and trucks let you change your setup. The board also has a combat role, as fast skating and tricks can destroy vicious demons, while the quest includes helping a forgetful frog and other tortured souls.
Its appeal is rooted in individual movement, exploration and progression: a fragile beginner’s transformation into a hardened skater unfolds amid surreal scenery and a psychedelic soundtrack. Skate Story combines arcade-like trick variety with a deliberately unusual narrative frame, where perseverance and a well-landed backside tailslide are both part of the path forward.
