Civilization IV®: Warlords is an expansion to Sid Meier’s Civilization IV, extending its turn-based empire-building with a focus on military leadership and conquest. Its scenarios draw on historical military leaders and recast moments from history, giving players new settings in which to pursue their ambitions. The expansion also adds civilizations, leaders, units and wonders to the broader campaign of growing a civilization toward world domination.
A central addition is the Warlord, a new great person type that gives military success a distinct leader figure. Conquering an enemy can also lead to the creation of a vassal state, placing that defeated power under the player’s rule rather than treating conquest only as territorial expansion. These systems underscore the pack’s emphasis on shaping political relationships through warfare. New leader traits, unique buildings and civilization-specific units further differentiate the available powers.
Warlords combines its scenario-driven historical framing with additions that reach into the core game, including gameplay tweaks and new resources and improvements. The pack also incorporates previously released patches and game additions for Civilization IV, making it both a themed expansion and a broader update to the original experience. Its identity rests on connecting military campaigns with new ways to represent leadership, subordination and the character of each civilization. Specific content may vary across scenarios.
