Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth sends players into a future reshaped by global collapse, where expeditions seek a home beyond Earth. You lead a colony on an alien planet and shape a new civilization, making choices that begin with the expedition itself: select a sponsor and determine the spacecraft, cargo, and colonists that establish the starting conditions. That setup gives the familiar broad ambition of building a civilization a science-fiction frontier and a more uncertain starting point.
Survival and expansion involve exploring hazardous terrain, encountering hostile life forms, establishing outposts and cities, and developing trade routes. Research follows a nonlinear technology web organized around three themes, each tied to a distinct victory condition. Its orbital layer adds satellites for military, economic, and scientific purposes, while technology unlocks unit upgrades that can be customized to suit a play style. These systems connect exploration, development, and military planning rather than limiting progress to a single research path.
Beyond Earth supports both single-player and multiplayer, with up to eight players competing for dominance of an alien world. Mod support also allows players to customize and extend the experience.
