Ship of Fools casts players as the Fools, seafarers trying to protect the Archipelago after the Great Lighthouse breaks and a corrupting storm approaches. Its voyages take place aboard the Stormstrider, where sea-monster attacks turn ship defense into the heart of each run. The hand-drawn nautical setting gives this cooperative roguelite a clear mission: keep the vessel and its crew afloat while pushing into dangerous waters.
Combat is hands-on: players man cannons, ready sails, and work together to defend and repair the ship. Between encounters, they chart a route through shifting storm paths, searching islands for treasure and shops while weighing whether to venture farther into the storm. Trinkets and artifacts can be collected and combined, while different Fools bring special abilities, giving each run tools to shape a strategy. The design emphasizes coordination as much as aiming, since the crew must manage threats and support one another aboard a vulnerable vessel.
Ship of Fools supports solo play as well as multiplayer, with co-op presented as a central part of its design.
