SEVERANCE is an online co-op tactical horror game about investigating haunted locations, identifying the entity, and surviving the hunt. Investigators use paranormal equipment to collect evidence and read behavioral tells, while the ghost can see and hear them. That makes observation a two-way risk: an investigator’s actions may reveal useful clues, but they can also alert the presence stalking the team.
Players can face an AI-controlled ghost that observes their actions and builds pressure, or choose an asymmetrical mode in which one player takes the ghost’s role. As the ghost, that player can interact with the map, lock doors, throw objects, and plan hunts; as investigators, the rest of the group must share evidence and identify the ghost before the hunt begins. The game supports one to five players, with its online co-op and optional player-controlled adversary shaping whether a session centers on a shared investigation or a human-versus-team contest.
Its equipment mixes familiar tools, including EMF meters and thermometers, with possession dolls that can track and provoke the entity. The design also emphasizes environmental audio and a minimal interface, making sounds, shadows, and flickers part of the investigative atmosphere. Together, evidence gathering, teamwork, and the possibility of a real player directing the haunting give SEVERANCE a flexible horror format rather than a single fixed role.
