Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope casts players as Sam Stone during the missions that made him an Earth Defense Force legend. Presented as a VR simulation based on Sam’s own log files, it frames the action as a journey across five planets, from Egyptian sands and ancient ruins to the abandoned industrial world of Pladeon. Its premise gives the shooting a pulpy science-fiction backdrop, with Mental’s alien forces and formidable servants standing in Sam’s way.
Combat is built around confronting dense enemy hordes with a broad arsenal. Players can dual-wield weapons such as miniguns, tommy guns, shotguns and heavy lasers, while the listed equipment also includes a rocket launcher, chainsaws, a sword and a shield. Progression adds another layer: the description lists 36 powerups and 190 weapon upgrades to unlock. Boss encounters punctuate the battles, beginning with the Unholy Space Mummy of Gamma Pegasi, while Sam’s voice performer John J. Dick supplies one-liners.
The game pairs its planet-hopping missions with replay-focused options: Arena presents changing enemy waves across difficulty settings, Endless Wave asks players to survive for as long as possible, and Daily Challenge puts players against the same daily arena challenge. Its format also supports playing any level with a partner, as well as single-player and online co-op.
