Serena begins with a man waiting for his wife in a remote getaway cabin, where familiar surroundings gradually bring memories to the surface and lead him toward a disturbing realization. Its horror is rooted in that intimate domestic mystery rather than a broad action premise: the cabin itself holds the clues to understanding what has happened.
Play is framed as a short, single-player point-and-click adventure. Players examine objects and details in the cabin as the story unfolds, with the game presenting this investigation as a challenge to both intellect and nerve. Its deliberately grim atmosphere and unsettling touches make the setting central to the experience, while voice performances include adventure-game designer Josh Mandel and video producer Pushing Up Roses.
Serena also stands out for its collaborative origins: the project brought together more than forty contributors from the adventure-game community.
