SENRAN KAGURA SHINOVI VERSUS picks up after SENRAN KAGURA Burst, setting rival shinobi schools against one another. Hanzō National Academy faces its old Hebijo enemies, now operating as the Homura Crimson Squad, as well as students from Gessen and a new Hebijo class. Four competing schools shape the conflict, and each gets a turn telling the story, revealing its characters’ motives, relationships, and hobbies.
Combat takes place in three dimensions, with teams of fighters chaining large mid-air combos and unleashing special Secret Ninja Art techniques. More than 20 shinobi bring individual weapons, abilities, and special moves; Ninja Arts can also change costumes and power up fighters during battle. Damage has a conspicuous visual effect: outfits deteriorate as the fighting continues, making the game’s blend of action and cheeky fan service part of its design rather than a separate flourish.
The game supports single-player story play and online competition for up to four players. Its multiplayer offers three distinct contests: Death Match, Strip Battle, which focuses on removing opponents’ clothing, and Understorm, a race to collect falling undergarments.
