Secret Neighbor Beta is an early version of a multiplayer social-horror game set in the Hello Neighbor universe. Its premise casts a group of children as intruders trying to reach the Neighbor’s basement and rescue a missing friend, while one player secretly works against them. That concealed role gives the group’s escape effort a tense social dimension: apparent cooperation does not guarantee trust.
As a child, players collect keys and work together to save their friends, while keeping an eye on the possibility that someone in the group is the Neighbor in disguise. The opposing role changes the objective: the Neighbor defends the house, using gadgets to gain an advantage, and can separate, scare, and confuse the children. The design brings teamwork and deception together in the same match, rather than framing the horror solely as a chase or puzzle.
The defining appeal is the uncertainty between players, with children trying to coordinate and the Neighbor seeking the right moment to attack.
