SCP: 5K is a tactical horror game set in Area-12, an underground biological research and containment facility in West Virginia. After the Unusual Incidents Unit arrives to investigate disturbing reports, a facility-wide lockdown traps its operatives inside. The site has turned toward creating weaponized hybrids of anomalous creatures, and the team must uncover why and prevent them from being unleashed.
Combat emphasizes grounded tactics: operatives can vault, peek around corners, breach doors, and customize weapons. Investigation adds a quieter layer, asking players to search their surroundings for clues, objectives, resources, and additional intel. Documents and audio logs can be collected and reviewed on a tablet, while players choose what findings to report over radio to their team’s command contact.
The game’s distinctive tension comes from combining armed encounters with uncertain, reality-defying threats and optional lore gathering. Its audio design uses wall-muffling effects and spatialized proximity voice chat, reinforcing the sense of danger within the facility. SCP: 5K also describes multiple scenario formats, including cooperative investigations and survival alongside player-versus-player options, giving its containment-horror setting more than one tactical angle.
