Scars of Summer: After follows Keita and Ryoka, longtime best friends in the small Japanese village of Iriki. Set a year before the summer that changed everything, the sequel lets players revisit their last ordinary summer together, then experience that consequential summer again. It also continues every route from the original, filling in gaps and showing what comes after.
The design centers on exploring the countryside and choosing how to spend time, alone or with Ryoka. Minigames give that routine varied activities: catch bugs, split watermelons, practice martial arts, take part-time jobs, or collect prizes from an old-fashioned gacha machine. Keita has limited influence over events, but can call Ryoka when she is out to hear what she is doing, or seek her out for an in-person conversation. Staying connected is itself a choice, rather than a fixed schedule imposed on the player.
Listed as a single-player adventure, Scars of Summer: After is built around one player’s route choices, leisurely activities, and conversations, not a shared multiplayer session. Its appeal lies in revisiting a familiar relationship through everyday decisions and multiple route continuations.
