SCARLET NEXUS casts humanity’s survival as a fight against the Others, brain-hungry mutants that descend from the sky and resist conventional attacks. Psionics, people with heightened extrasensory abilities, join the Other Suppression Force to defend a futuristic Japanese setting shaped by anime and Western science fiction. The premise gives its action an unusual mix of military defense, psychic powers and a world caught between technology and the mind.
Combat turns the surroundings into weapons: characters use psychokinetic abilities to lift, break and throw environmental objects, building attacks into combos against the Others. The game also tells a dual story, allowing players to begin with either OSF recruit Yuito Sumeragi or scout Kasane Randall. Their separate experiences interweave, with the full story and its mysteries revealed through both perspectives. This pairing of environmental combat and intersecting narratives distinguishes SCARLET NEXUS from a straightforward action adventure.
Listed as single-player, SCARLET NEXUS is built around an individual campaign rather than a player-versus-player or cooperative format.
