Sands of Salzaar casts its adventure in a fantastical desert after the fall of an Old Empire. Rival tribes struggle for control while a darker threat gathers out of sight, giving the setting both political tension and a looming supernatural edge. The world is described as being in constant flux, with living systems intended to make each playthrough distinct rather than follow a single fixed course.
Players choose from ten Heroes, each with a specialized skill tree, then roam a large map, encounter characters and enter dangerous dungeons for boss fights and loot. The strategic layer leaves room to negotiate with rival factions, declare war, form alliances or pursue peace, while trade and personal relationships offer other paths through the changing landscape. Choices carry consequences, so conquest is only one way to shape a character’s place in the desert.
The game combines RPG exploration with strategy and faction politics, while a built-in visual mod editor lets players alter or expand the world without writing code. The emphasis is on personal choices within a shifting world, whether a player focuses on diplomacy, markets, exploration or conflict.
