Sanctum 2 builds its action around a clear threat: deadly aliens are trying to destroy oxygen-producing Cores on the planet LOEK III. Players choose among four character classes, each with distinct strengths, weaknesses and weapons, then customize a loadout of towers, weapons and perks. The defense of the Cores is not left to automated structures alone; the player is also part of the frontline.
Each encounter shifts between planning and direct combat. Before enemies attack, players construct towers and walls, shaping mazes to slow the incoming hordes and positioning defenses to protect the Cores. When the assault begins, Sanctum 2 switches into first-person shooting, letting players join the fight themselves. That blend of route design and hands-on combat is the game’s defining design, supported by progression that unlocks additional weapons, towers and perks, as well as comic-book pages tied to completed maps.
The campaign can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four friends, who can uncover the story behind the aliens’ assault together. Its class choices, customizable equipment and alternating build-and-battle rhythm give the defense premise room for different approaches.
