Set during the age of geographical discovery, Sailing Era casts players as four captains with distinct backgrounds, each pursuing a life at sea. Its maritime world is built around a real-world-scale map with recreated oceans, land, monsoon currents, and changing weather. Voyages can bring shifting winds and storms, but also pirate attacks, shipwrecks, and buried treasure, giving exploration both opportunity and danger.
Ports are active hubs rather than simple stops: sailors can resupply, trade goods, take commissions, recruit crew, and invest in local development. Prices fluctuate, while trade and commissions can help ports expand their selection of goods, items, and ships. Players can also organize inland expeditions. More than 30 recruitable characters, from scholars and merchants to pirates and ronins, can develop through new traits and improved skills, adding strategic choices to the four captains’ journeys.
Naval combat makes wind and ship positioning part of the encounter: captains can maneuver to control distance and cannon angles, or choose close-range sword fighting. The fleet includes historically inspired vessels such as caravels and galleons, alongside ship customization.
