Rusty’s Retirement is an idle-farming simulator designed to share space with other work, rather than demand a full-screen focus. Its farm can sit along the bottom of the screen, or take a vertical layout at the side. Zoom controls offer a less distracting view, while Focus Mode slows crop production. That screen-edge format is central to the game’s identity: tending a farm is meant to fit alongside other tasks.
The farming loop combines crop growth with resource management. Rusty plants, waters, nurtures and harvests crops, with additional crops unlocking as progress continues. Harvests can be turned into biofuel, which serves as a power source for robots and can also be sold to other machine inhabitants. Money from sales can then go back into expanding the farm, linking cultivation to upgrades rather than treating each harvest as an endpoint.
Automation gives the player another way to shape that routine. Helper robots can take on planting, watering and harvesting, and players can customize and upgrade them to improve efficiency. Twitch integration also lets streamers and viewers build a farm together, with viewers directing a robot’s task through chat commands.
