RuneQuest: Warlords is a battle-scale, turn-based strategy game set in Glorantha, where the Talastar tribes fight to survive a Chaos invasion. Its campaign follows Hahlgrim, a tribal champion gathering allies to drive back the invaders. The setting’s RuneQuest lore frames the conflict, while the mix of tribal forces, elves and temporary Lunar allies gives the war a broader cast than a simple clash of two armies.
Battles take place on grid-based maps, where terrain, positioning and each unit’s Zone of Control shape movement and engagement. Action Points fund moves, attacks and special abilities, while Heroes receive two AP for advanced tactics such as flanking and spellcasting. Spirit, Rune and Sorcery magic, alongside opportunity attacks and counter-attacks, makes placement and timing central to each turn. Units range from heroes and spellcasters to cavalry, monsters and artillery, and each model has its own health points.
The single-player campaign spans 18 missions, while a Competitive Arena offers replayable scenarios. Talastar, Chaos and the Lunar Empire provide distinct factions and matchups, giving the game both a story-led route through the invasion and a competitive setting for tactical battles.
