Ruinarch is a single-player simulation sandbox set in procedurally generated fantasy worlds, where you take the role of an overlord and provoke conflicts among villagers. Rather than following a fixed tale, the game casts you as the storyteller, using schemes and supernatural disruptions to shape a world’s unfolding drama and dark comedy.
Its three overlord archetypes offer different playstyles, from direct destruction to more subtle manipulation. Spell effects can interact in unexpected ways, while afflictions such as lycanthropy or unfaithfulness can turn villagers against one another. You can also gather information with Beholder-generated Eyes, spread gossip, create customized plagues, recruit brainwashed cultists, or unleash monsters to kidnap villagers and raid settlements. These systems make social fallout as central to the sandbox as physical destruction.
Ruinarch’s single-player format centers play on one person orchestrating a simulated world, rather than on a shared multiplayer session.
