Rome: Total War™ - Collection brings together Rome: Total War and its official expansion, Barbarian Invasion, for two campaigns shaped by the rise and decline of the Roman Empire. The original campaign follows one of three noble Roman families on a century-spanning effort to seize control, while the expansion shifts attention to a Rome under attack and divided by internal conflict.
The collection’s strategic play reaches beyond the battlefield: players manage the economic, civil, religious and military arms of an empire. That broad responsibility gives the campaigns a mix of political and logistical decisions alongside conquest, rather than reducing Rome’s fortunes to combat alone. The struggle can involve historical leaders including Julius Caesar, Spartacus and Hannibal, whether players seek to expand or destroy the empire.
Battles provide a contrasting spectacle, with warrior-tested legions fighting in cinematic engagements that can put thousands of soldiers on screen at once. Barbarian Invasion also changes the perspective, letting players besiege Rome as factions such as Attila the Hun’s Huns or the Saxons, with signature weapons and abilities. Together, the two included titles frame imperial power from both sides: a campaign to build dominion and an expansion about the pressures that threaten it.
