In a bleak future where humans struggle to survive in the desert, scavenger Max reactivates an abandoned Guardian robot. Together they venture into mysterious canyons filled with hostile bots. Roboquest casts that setup as a fast-paced first-person shooter, pairing its robot-smashing action with a roguelite loop rather than a fixed sequence of encounters.
Each run sends players through randomly generated environments assembled from themed, atmospheric sections. Running and jumping with evasive maneuvers matters as much as shooting, especially against enemies that fill the fight with incoming fire. Players choose among Guardian classes and shape a build with class-specific upgrades, seeking synergies while picking from weapons that range from shotguns and rifles to a mortar and flare gun. Defeat means returning to basecamp, but wrenches gathered on runs can buy persistent upgrades and unlock further gameplay choices for later attempts.
Its appeal is in balancing immediate movement and combat decisions with longer-term basecamp progression: each expedition can offer a different level layout, while learned enemy patterns and permanent unlocks give subsequent attempts room to go further.
