Road Scars: Origins puts players in the role of Adam, an aspiring motorcyclist seeking a place in the Road Slicers, the town’s largest motorcycle club. Jobs for the Road Baron send him onto dangerous roads at different times of day, with traffic and other bikers to contend with. The game draws inspiration from Road Rash and Road Fighter, and pairs its motorcycle action with retro visuals and comic-book-style cutscenes.
Riding involves steering clear of traffic and knocking down enemies on procedurally generated roads. A day-and-night system and original punk rock music give the races a changing backdrop and a distinct audio identity. Together, these features frame the journey as a blend of racing and hazards rather than a simple contest to reach the finish line first.
The three modes offer different approaches to that design. Story mode follows Adam through challenges and races; arcade mode is about pursuing a high score and a place on Steam leaderboards; challenge mode sets 48 challenges and races alongside achievement unlocks.
