Revenge of the Savage Planet casts you as a discarded employee left on the far edge of space after corporate greed and stupidity upend the future. With little gear and no safety net, your aim is to explore alien worlds, gather upgrades, and find a way to return to Earth while getting revenge on your former employer. The setup gives exploration a clear personal motive: survival and discovery are tied to settling a score.
Its worlds invite hands-on investigation. You can scan plants, capture creatures, swim through lakes, explore caves, climb mountains, and search for hidden rewards. Cataloging discoveries and completing experiments raises your science level, which unlocks gear; upgrades can also be crafted. Movement and combat tools include running, jumping, shooting, grinding, stomping, dodging, sliding, whipping, and grappling, while three types of gameplay goo add another avenue for experimentation. Captured creatures can be kept in pens near your habitat, and finds can be displayed in a customizable Space Trailer.
The game describes four large planets, each with its own plants and creatures, and hints that there may be more. Its play format accommodates solo exploration as well as cooperative sessions: co-op is offered online and on a shared screen, including cross-platform play.
