After the destruction of surface civilization, Return from Core casts the player as a survivor venturing into a dangerous underground world, with the goal of finding a way back to the surface. Exploration ranges from deep caverns to forgotten human ruins, where scattered technologies and clues to humanity’s downfall give the journey a larger mystery than resource gathering alone.
Mining drives the practical side of that expedition: swing a pickaxe through rock or use explosives to break entire mineral veins, then put collected ores and rare materials toward construction, production, and equipment upgrades. The game also makes companionship part of survival. Monster Girls can become combat allies with exploration skills, and contribute at the base through activities such as farming, cooking, gathering, and production. Players can build and decorate that base, while crafting machinery and logistics systems to automate production and power a super drill.
Its mix of underground exploration, fighting, crafting, and base management gives Return from Core a varied single-player format rather than a multiplayer match structure. The journey’s defining loop connects destructive mining and technological progress with the personal project of making a home below ground and returning to the surface.
