Retro Rewind – Video Store Simulator turns the nostalgia of video rentals into a hands-on shop-management premise. Players build a store from the ground up, handling rentals and sales while arranging shelves stocked with VHS tapes that have individual titles, genres, and hand-drawn cover art. The goal is not simply to fill a shop with retro décor: day-to-day customer service and business decisions are central to the design.
That work spans reservations, recommendations, snack preparation, and the less glamorous business of processing returns. Tapes must be added back into the system, rewound, or set aside for customers who reserved them; late or damaged returns can bring fees and customer complaints. Players can hire staff to help with daily tasks, customize the shop’s walls and floors, and expand its layout. Movie orders come through an in-game old PC, with additional films available from a shady Tape Dealer. The changing calendar also shapes the routine: seasons, weather, holidays, and festivals affect the store and what customers rent.
The format is single-player, so its player-count context is a solo simulation focused on keeping one rental business running rather than a shared shop session. The store’s rhythm comes from balancing its practical jobs with the themed atmosphere: weekly releases draw inspiration from iconic films of the 1980s and early 1990s, while seasonal artwork and festivals give the setting a changing backdrop.
