Set during the September 1998 T-virus outbreak, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City casts players as members of Umbrella’s Security Service. Their assignment is to destroy evidence and eliminate survivors, while government Spec-Ops soldiers pursue the outbreak’s source. The mission unfolds in Raccoon City’s streets, where targets include series characters Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, and threats include hunters and lickers.
The game is a third-person shooter built around a volatile three-corner conflict: zombies and bio-organic weapons complicate the struggle between the two human forces. Its campaign supports solo play or cooperative teams of up to four, with players acting as Umbrella operatives. Character-specific abilities and skills develop as experience levels increase, giving the squad role-playing choices alongside the shooter action.
Separate from the campaign, online competitive play offers four-versus-four modes including Team Attack, Biohazard, Survivors, and Heroes Mode. Its defining hook is the uneasy alliance of Resident Evil’s familiar outbreak horrors and a military operation designed to conceal them.
