Set in 1998, Resident Evil 0 follows S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team rookie Rebecca Chambers after her unit’s helicopter crashes while investigating unusual murders outside Raccoon City. She finds the Ecliptic Express and encounters Billy Coen, a death-row convict and former Navy lieutenant. Their uneasy partnership places this remastered prequel before the mansion incident that sets the wider series in motion.
The central design distinction is that players control both Rebecca and Billy, switching between them to make progress. Learning what each character brings to a situation is important for solving puzzles and surviving the infected threats. That paired-character structure gives the adventure a different shape from a survival-horror story built around one protagonist, while keeping exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival at its core. After completing the main story, Wesker Mode lets players take control of series antagonist Albert Wesker and use his superhuman abilities through the missions.
The remaster preserves the original’s classic appearance while adding enhanced visuals and sound, widescreen support alongside the classic 4:3 ratio, and an optional modernized control scheme. These presentation choices offer ways to tailor the experience without changing its defining focus on Rebecca and Billy’s cooperation.
