Set in 1989, Regiments imagines a renewed Cold War conflict across the German landscape, where NATO and Warsaw Pact forces meet in large-scale battles. It is a real-time tactics game built around leading a regiment through the fighting, with a plot-focused campaign that follows several operations and presents the conflict from multiple perspectives.
Its command design emphasizes directing formations rather than micromanaging individual soldiers. Players maneuver forces, call in artillery and air support, and can feign retreats or organize mobile defenses. A chosen main regiment can be reinforced during play with task forces, each bringing distinct equipment and off-map support. The campaign also combines tactical engagements with resource management between battles and operational decisions, giving command a broader scope than moment-to-moment combat alone.
Alongside the campaign, four skirmish modes offer varied, dynamic objectives. More than a hundred modeled vehicles, including the Leopard 2, T-72M, and M2 Bradley, serve formations drawn from several factions.
