Redfall sets its story in an island town in Massachusetts, where vampires have blotted out the sun and cut residents off from the outside world. The campaign follows a group of survivors trying to uncover how the creatures appeared and push back against the occupation. Arkane Austin frames the setting as a handcrafted open world, moving from downtown streets and a haunted forest to a damaged seaside boardwalk and supernatural psychic spaces.
Combat mixes firearms with character-specific abilities, weapon customization, and upgrades. Players can favor stealth, direct gunfights, or approaches between those extremes, while vampires born from failed experiments and their cultist followers provide the central threat. The four heroes bring distinct backgrounds and tools: engineer Remi fights alongside her robot Bribón, while ex-military sharpshooter Jacob has a spectral raven and a mysterious vampiric eye. Teammates can combine different hero loadouts to tackle encounters creatively.
Redfall supports a solo campaign as well as online cooperative play for up to four players. The blend of story-led exploration and flexible combat is central to what distinguishes Redfall’s vampire-apocalypse premise.
