Ratropolis puts players in command of a small rat settlement trying to survive predators and monstrous creatures. Its unusual mix of roguelite progression, deck building, tower defense, and real-time strategy makes the city’s survival an active planning problem rather than a matter of assembling a deck in isolation. The aim is to protect the residents and grow the outpost into a thriving Ratropolis.
Each campaign begins with eight basic cards, while a pool of more than 500 economy, building, military, and skill cards offers different ways to shape a defense. Players can add, remove, and upgrade cards, and advisers with finance, defense, or leadership talents can improve the choices available as trouble unfolds. Random decision events add further variation, while six leaders bring distinct traits and play styles. When the city falls, that campaign ends; cards can be unlocked to broaden the options available in later runs.
The single-player format centers the experience on directing a settlement through repeated, distinct defenses, with the blend of quick judgment and long-term deck decisions defining its strategic character. Its appeal lies in balancing immediate threats against the evolving tools and leadership choices that can make each attempt feel different.
