PropHunter builds its online hide-and-seek match around a reversal of roles: one side disguises itself as ordinary objects, while the other searches for the players hidden among the props. The disguise is more than a visual trick, since props take on an object’s properties and can try to blend into their surroundings. The hunters must uncover every surviving prop before time runs out; if even one remains, the hunters lose the round.
The hunt can swing in either direction. Props may deliberately make noise to draw attention, and can damage hunters by striking with enough force. A caught prop joins the hunters, while an eliminated hunter switches to the props team, so successful searches and attacks alter the sides as play unfolds. Both roles also have distinct abilities, including invisibility, changing into an object, bombs, speed boosts and health restoration. Players find ability cards at random locations on a level, making those powers conditional pickups rather than a constant toolkit.
The defining appeal is the uneven information between the teams, paired with opportunities for each side to disrupt the other rather than simply wait or search.
