Prologue: Go Wayback! is a single-player wilderness adventure built around reaching a distant Weather Tower through unfamiliar terrain. Each time a run begins, the game generates a new 64-square-kilometre landscape on the player’s PC, combining procedural generation with the studio’s machine-learning technology and artistic design. With no quest markers or prescribed route, the journey is shaped by navigation and individual choices rather than a guided sequence of objectives.
Survival is tied to changing conditions: players manage hunger, thirst and body temperature while dealing with rain, wind, snow and freezing temperatures. Weather and time of day affect decisions, and the practical routine includes foraging for food, finding drinkable water and moving between shelters. Navigation relies on a map and compass, with no minimap directing each step. Players must judge whether to follow sheltered valleys, take higher ground or wait out a storm, making orientation and risk assessment central to play.
The game also lets players design a map, choose a game mode and set custom options for a run. Its appeal rests on adapting to a particular world and deciding how to cross it, not following a fixed route.
